We can rely on nonsense for a good start.
So perhaps we can believe that today is a verifiable day for us to be depressed, sunk down to the bottom of deepest darkest well and allow, for this one true occasion, us to view our life from in a toilet bowl.
Its Blue Monday, the third Monday of January, the most depressing day of the year, or so they say. A date comically calculated by Cliff Arnall, at the time a tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, a Further Education centre attached to Cardiff University. Arnall says the date was calculated by using many factors, including: weather conditions, debt level (the difference between debt accumulated and our ability to pay), time since Christmas, time since failing our new year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and feeling of a need to take action.

You could try to make sense of that equation, but the man himself, once confident, withdrew his statement in fear of anticipation of such a morbid calendar staple, with a largely sensible majority dismissing it as harmless fun, and a statement from Cardiff University distancing themselves from Arnall, pointing out that Cliff was a former part-time tutor at the university.
And I got a seat on the train to work today, as rare as a blue moon. So that's a pretty good Monday for me. (:
